Located at an altitude of 8,200ft, 150 miles west of Denver, between Vail and Steamboat Springs, is Black Mountain Ranch, a high-country escape that gives you a real taste of the Wild West. It is situated on 1,000 private acres with an extensive trail system, which extends deep into the Routt National Forest.
RIDING AND ACTIVITIES
From novice to expert, the wranglers will match the horse to each guest's ability. The rides
vary from a couple of hours to a full day. Stay on the trails, explore cross-country, or ride in
the area for practice and instruction. There is also the chance to join the cowboys as they
move the herd of Texas Longhorns through the Colorado High Country. Fishing, trap
shooting, white-water rafting, archery and pack trips including extensive riding and camping in
style, as well as trips into Vail or Steamboat for shopping are just some of the other activities
available.
COMFORTABLE ROOMS
The guest rooms, studios and cabins are comfortable and cosy while the main lodge serves
hearty western cuisine. The fully licensed log-cabin-style saloon often features live music by
the wranglers and serves as a gathering place for guests in the evenings. For children the
Little Wranglers programme provides special activities including riding, hiking, fishing, crafts
and nature walks.
