Ranch Season - All Year round
The Lone Star State conjures images of cowboys and oil barons, Conquistadors and Cadillac's. This is wide-open country – the second biggest state in the US – where the Texas longhorn is ubiquitous and the western frontier atmosphere has never gone away.
Sharing a border with Mexico, along the winding Rio Grande, has resulted in the Tex-Mex flavour of Southern Texas, while the beautiful Gulf coastline offers sandy beaches and year- round sunshine. For a city break in the big state you've plenty of choice. There's Dallas, with its links to the Kennedy's and the Ewings; San Antonio, for a taste of history at the Alamo; and Austin, the live music capital of the world.
Most Texas ranches are to found in the Hill Country in west Texas, where crystal-clear rivers carve a path through wooded hills and valleys. Here too you'll find numerous vineyards and pretty heritage towns, founded by Texas' first pioneers.
